Set Up Discreet Job Alerts
Job alerts bring new postings to you automatically so you do not have to spend time manually searching every day. Setting them up correctly means you only see the most relevant roles and can act quickly when something great comes up.
Job alerts bring new postings to you automatically so you do not have to spend time manually searching every day. Setting them up correctly means you only see the most relevant roles and can act quickly when something great comes up.
Step by Step
Set up LinkedIn job alerts with privacy in mind Before setting up alerts make sure your LinkedIn privacy settings are configured correctly. Go to Settings and Privacy, then Visibility, and confirm that your activity broadcasts are turned off. This prevents your current employer from being notified when you update your profile or engage with job postings.
Set up job alerts on LinkedIn, Indeed, and Glassdoor Search your target role and location on each platform and enable daily email alerts. Direct these alerts to your personal email only.
Create a dedicated email folder Create a folder called Job Search in your personal email. Set filters so all job alert emails go directly there. Check it each morning before work or each evening.
Refine your alerts after a few days Adjust the keywords if you are getting too many irrelevant results or too few relevant ones.
Tips for success
On LinkedIn specifically go to your profile and turn off the Open to Work feature or set it to Recruiters Only. The green Open to Work banner is visible to everyone including your current employer and colleagues.
Use incognito mode when browsing job postings to avoid targeted ads appearing on your work browser.
