WEEK 4DAY 6TASK 1

Write a Letter to Yourself From the Other Side

This exercise is consistently one of the most useful things a career changer can do when a search feels long and uncertain. Writing from the perspective of having successfully made the transition and settled into a role in the new field activates a part of your thinking that pure tactical action does not reach.

WHY THIS MATTERS

This exercise is consistently one of the most useful things a career changer can do when a search feels long and uncertain. Writing from the perspective of having successfully made the transition and settled into a role in the new field activates a part of your thinking that pure tactical action does not reach.

Step by Step

1
Step 1

Imagine it is one year from now. You are six months into your first role in the new field and genuinely glad you made the change. The search is behind you. The transition is complete.

2
Step 2

Write a letter to your current self from that future place. Include: What the role is and why you are proud of it. What the transition taught you about yourself and what you actually want from your career. What you would tell your current self about the hard days of Week 4. What you are most grateful for about the experience of making a deliberate career change. What you know now about the new field that you could not have known before you made the move.

3
Step 3

Read it back.

4
Step 4

Save it somewhere you can return to on hard days.

Tips This is not a wishful thinking exercise. It is a clarity and resilience exercise. The goal is to reconnect with why you started this journey and remind yourself that the effort you are putting in is leading somewhere real. The specificity of your imagined future matters. The more concrete and detailed you make it the more useful the exercise.
