Reach Out to Your Inner Circle With a Specific Ask

WEEK 4DAY 3TASK 1

Reach Out to Your Inner Circle With a Specific Ask

In the first three weeks your networking was largely relational. You were reconnecting and building trust. In Week 4 it is appropriate to make a more direct ask of your most trusted contacts. People who know you well and want to help you often need a specific and clear ask to know how to help.

WHY THIS MATTERS

In the first three weeks your networking was largely relational. You were reconnecting and building trust. In Week 4 it is appropriate to make a more direct ask of your most trusted contacts. People who know you well and want to help you often need a specific and clear ask to know how to help.

Step by Step

1
Step 1

Identify your 5 most trusted and well-connected contacts. These are people who know your work, want to help, and have networks relevant to your target.

2
Step 2

Send each of them a brief and specific message Template: "Hi [Name], I am entering the final stretch of my search and wanted to reach out one more time. I am specifically targeting [type of role] at [type of company] and am particularly interested in [specific company if applicable]. If you know anyone there or in that space who might be worth a conversation I would genuinely appreciate an introduction. Even a brief warm email connecting us would mean a lot. Thank you for everything."

3
Step 3

Be specific about what you are asking for. A vague ask produces a vague response. Naming a specific company or type of person makes it easy for the contact to help.

4
Step 4

Log each message and follow up with genuine gratitude when they come through.

Tips Keep this outreach within your trusted inner circle only. A direct ask about job leads is not appropriate with all contacts, only with those who know you well and have already expressed genuine support. Always follow up with the person after any introduction they make, even if it does not lead anywhere. Let them know what happened and thank them specifically.
