Strong answer framework:

Acknowledge what you valued in your previous career and what you accomplished

Explain the genuine motivation for the change, grounded in something specific

Connect your previous experience to the new role as an asset

Demonstrate the steps you have already taken toward the transition

Express clear and specific enthusiasm for this field and this company

Example: "I spent seven years in [previous field] and genuinely valued that experience. I developed strong skills in [transferable skills] and accomplished [brief achievement]. Over time I became increasingly drawn to [new field] because [specific genuine reason]. I realized that the skills I had built were actually highly relevant here, particularly [specific skill]. So rather than a departure this feels like a natural evolution. I have spent the past [time period] actively preparing by [steps taken] and I am confident this is the right direction. When I came across this role at [Company] it felt like a strong fit because [specific reason]."
