Open your job search tracker and your resume folder. Have 2-3 customized resume versions ready to go so you are not starting from scratch each time.
Step by Step
Search your usual platforms Check LinkedIn Jobs, Indeed, Glassdoor, and the career pages you bookmarked last week. Look for roles posted in the last 3-7 days. Fresh postings get fewer applicants.
Screen quickly Spend no more than 3 minutes deciding whether to apply to each role. Ask yourself: do I meet 70% of the requirements? Am I genuinely interested? If yes, apply. If no, move on.
Customize each resume Make a copy of your master resume for each application. Update the summary to match the job title and tweak 1-2 bullet points to reflect the most important requirements in the posting.
Write a short cover letter for each Keep it to 3 short paragraphs. Opening: why this company and role. Middle: one specific relevant achievement. Closing: confident call to action. Do not overthink it.
Submit and log everything Apply through whatever channel the posting specifies. Log the company, role, date, and application URL in your tracker. Set a follow-up reminder for 7 days from today.
Tips for success
Speed matters. Early applicants have a significantly higher response rate than people who apply after a posting has been up for 2 weeks.
If you are spending more than 20 minutes per application you are over-customizing. Adjust and move faster.
Quality still matters more than raw numbers. Five targeted applications beats twenty generic ones every time.
