Analyze Your Application Data
As an employed candidate your time is more limited than most other job seekers. You cannot afford to spend it on approaches that are not working. Your tracker data tells you exactly where your time is generating results and where it is not.
As an employed candidate your time is more limited than most other job seekers. You cannot afford to spend it on approaches that are not working. Your tracker data tells you exactly where your time is generating results and where it is not.
Step by Step
Open your tracker and review all applications submitted so far Note the types of roles, company sizes, platforms used, and which ones generated responses.
Calculate your response rate by category Break it down:
Large companies vs small companies
Applications with a cover letter vs without
Roles where you met 70%+ of requirements vs stretch applications
Direct company applications vs job board submissions
Identify your strongest performing category and double down on it
Identify your weakest performing category and reduce time spent on it
Make one specific strategic adjustment for the rest of your search Examples: "I will focus exclusively on companies with under 300 employees" or "I will apply only to roles posted in the last 72 hours."
Tips for success
If your overall response rate is below 5% after 3 weeks your resume or targeting needs attention. Ask a trusted contact with hiring experience to review your materials.
If your response rate is above 10% your materials are working. Focus on increasing volume and depth of relationships with companies that have already responded.
