Your tracker is a valuable source of intelligence about your job search. Patterns in your data can tell you whether your resume is working, whether you are targeting the right types of roles and companies, and where your time is best spent going forward.
Step by Step
Open your tracker and review all applications submitted so far Look at: the types of roles you applied to, the size and type of companies, the platforms you used, the level of customization you did, and which ones generated responses.
Calculate your response rate by category Break it down:
Response rate from large companies vs small companies
Response rate from LinkedIn Easy Apply vs customized applications
Response rate when you wrote a cover letter vs when you did not
Response rate for roles where you met 70%+ of requirements vs roles where you were a stretch
Identify your strongest performing category Where are you getting the most responses? Double down on that approach in Week 4.
Identify your weakest performing category If a certain type of application is consistently generating zero responses stop spending time on it and redirect that energy.
Write one specific strategy adjustment for the rest of your search Be concrete. "I will focus on companies with 50 to 200 employees rather than large corporations" or "I will write a cover letter for every application going forward since my response rate is higher when I do."
Tips for success
If your overall response rate is below 5% after 3 weeks your resume likely needs attention. Book a review with a career advisor, ask a trusted contact with hiring experience to look at it, or use a free ATS checker like Jobscan to identify gaps.
If your response rate is above 10% your materials are working well. Focus on increasing volume and deepening relationships with companies that have responded.
