Complete these steps
Write down everyone you know professionally Include: former colleagues, former managers, former direct reports, clients, vendors, professional contacts, industry peers, people you have met at events or conferences.
Write down everyone you know personally who might have relevant connections Include: friends, family members, neighbours, people from university or college, people from volunteer work, people from community groups or clubs.
Categorize them Tier 1 — People who know your work well and would recommend you without hesitation Tier 2 — People who know you professionally but you haven't been in close contact recently Tier 3 — Acquaintances who might have relevant connections even if they don't know your work closely
Aim for at least 20 names Most people can get to 20-30 names quickly once they stop filtering. Write everyone down — you can decide later who to contact and how.
